Top Uk female Jazz saxophonist
Influenced at an early age by being introduced to Dexter Gordon, Karen Sharp graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music and on moving to London in 1999 became busy on the London Scene quickly making her mark with extablished musicians on the scene as well as visiting American musicians. A three year stint with the Humphrey Lyttleton Band gave exposure to her talents to a wider audience all over the UK and Europe building an appreciative fan base. Since leaving Humph's band Karen Sharp has continued to establish herself as a first class tenor and baritone player through working with her own band, stints with singer Tina May, as well as appearing on Jacqui Dankworth's recent album. She has been recognised in the British Jazz Awards twice and has been invited to play on the Norich Jazz Party for the past four years.
Recently she has been seen working with Robert Fowler celebrating the timeless team of Zoot Sims and Al Cohn.
Karen Sharp's new album SPIRIT is a landmark in her career as she confidently brings together her experience to date in creating an album that displays maturity in her playing and concept.
